 Description:

The Colin BP-8800 is a patient monitor. Medaval has not found evidence proving the accuracy of its blood pressure measurement technology. Blood pressure measurements are taken from the upper arm. It is intended for bedside patient monitoring. This device has been discontinued by the manufacturer but may be available through certain outlets.

Assessment:

The technology used in the Colin BP-8800, to measure blood pressure, has failed in a clinical validation study, in a general population, according to a recognised standard protocol, as published in a peer-reviewed publication.

This blood pressure monitor clearly displays all pressure values as well as the heart rate thanks to its bright LEDs. Additionally, the last four sets of systolic, diastolic, and heart rate values are visible on the LCD screen, offering a quick history of measurements.

This stand-alone model is designed to be used with adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients in a variety of healthcare settings. It features a visual pulse level indicator to confirm‎ accurate cuff positioning. Moreover, various information messages can be displayed on the LCD screen, thus enhancing the reliability of the measurements.

The Press-Mate BP-8800C is equipped with several features. It displays the current time and the time elapsed since the last measurement. A complete history of measurements can be stored in memory for later review or printing. Audible alarms for systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressure (MAP), and heart rate values allow for a quick response in case of abnormalities. These alarms can be set according to the high and low limits desired by the operator.

The start of measurements can be triggered manually or through an interval timer, thus offering flexibility in taking measurements. The interval timer can be set from continuous up to 180 minutes. Moreover, the monitor is equipped with an integrated battery allowing up to four hours of operation (without the use of the printer) in battery mode. When the battery needs recharging, an appropriate message is displayed on the LCD screen.
